One day, King David commanded to his royal craftsmen,
"Make a most beautiful ring for me and engrave a phrase
that would calm my joy when I am victorious
and encourage me when I am in despair."
The craftsmen made a most beautiful ring as they had been commanded,
but they were deeply worried. So they went to the wise prince Solomon for a word of advise.
"Your highness, what would be the phrase
that calms King's joy when he is victorious and
encourages him when in despair?"
"'Soon it shall also come to pass. Soon it shall come to pass.'
The King would calm his joy when he is victorious
and encourage himself when in despair."
"Soon it shall also come to pass. Soon it shall come to pass."
슬픔이 그대의 삶으로 밀려와
마음을 흔들고 소중한 것들을
쓸어가 버릴 때면
그대 가슴에 대고 다만 말하라.
'이것 또한 지나가리라'
행운이 그대에게 미소 짓고
기쁨과 환희로 가득할 때
근심 없는 날들이 스쳐갈 때면
세속적인 것들에만 의존하지 않도록
이 진실을 조용히 가슴에 새기라.
'이것 또한 지나가리라'
